The worst advice I've given today

Considering it is only 7:38am as I begin to write, it is hard to believe that I have already handed out some bad advice. Unfortunately, it is true! On Thursday mornings I meet with a few friends for breakfast and fellowship. At the end of our time today, we shook hands and encouraged each other the way that friends do. I can still hear the words coming from my mouth, "Don't work too hard today." Wow! that is terrible advice and I took it back as quickly as possible. "Work hard!" "Work hard!"

We should work hard and as Christians we should set an example for the rest of the world to follow.

Colossians 3:23-24 says, 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Proverbs 90:17 says, 17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.

These are just two verses that represent scores of verses and whole sections of Scripture that describes how wonderful it is to work hard for the Lord and how God ordains our labor. God even models this for us, as He is always working on our behalf. God always works hard for you, so you should always work hard for Him.

He knew that our work would be hard and in Genesis 2:3 He rested and created the Sabbath for us. He rested, not because He was tired, but to give us a day to rest in Him. SO, when your friends says, "Don't work too hard," consider what day it is. If it is your Sabbath, then it is good advice, if it is a work day, then it is bad advice.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
